Living in the present... looking to the future... honoring the past. Albany has a beautiful blend of history integrated with the future. Downtown Albany is home to some of the most intricate and detailed historic homes that speak of a time gone by. The Monteith and Hackleman Historic districts feature homes that are, perhaps, some of the best preserved snapshots in Albany’s history.
You’ll find homes dating back to the early 1850’s that inspire curiosities of ‘how life was back then. Since the days of dirt roads and horse drawn carts, many of the same buildings still stand downtown, currently filled with thriving businesses. You’ll find everything from quaint coffee shops to banks, beauty shops, restaurants, furniture stores and more. Traveled by train in awhile? Albany has one of the oldest operating rail stations that recently underwent an extensive restoration project, revitalizing one of the historical staples of the town.
In stark contrast to the historic districts and downtown, Albany is also home to many neighborhoods filled with well built newer homes. Several of these established neighborhoods are great for raising your family with great parks and miles of nature filled walking and biking trails.
Albany has continually grown with the demand for more housing and schools. Albany currently has two high schools and several middle schools servicing the population. Beginning in 2008 and opening in 2009, Albany began expansion to cover the rising population and added Timber Ridge School. Schools available are both, public and private with the community college (LBCC) and state college (OSU) nearby.
As you look around town, it is apparent that the town is constantly striving for positive change. Expansion and improvements are all around, yet we still maintain an attractive and charming feel. With a well balanced blend of business and residential homes, nothing is too far away. Running a few errands is rarely an arduous task due to the commute.
One thing in particular I love about Albany is that the pace of life isn’t so hectic that you want to pull your hair out just to get across town, yet we have just about anything you could need here in town. New businesses find this area to be a sound investment for numerous reasons, but one in particular is Albany’s close proximity to the I-5 corridor.
Albany really is close to it all. Albany is approximately 20-30 minutes from Salem, 1 hour and 15 minutes from Portland, about 45 minutes to Eugene/Springfield, roughly an hour to Newport on the coast, and roughly an hour to the Cascade mountain range.
The housing market here in Albany has never seen the sharp rising value increases or plummeting drops that many other areas of the country have endured. It would be absurd to believe that Albany hasn’t been affected by the changes in economy. No one is immune from the effects of our current recession but its comforting to know that we haven’t seen the “feast and famine” plaguing much of the nation. That certainly helps in making this a safe place for your home investment. The average home in Albany currently sells for roughly $178,373 and is approximately 1528 square feet.
